IFIOC’s History

May 2, 2021

Having trained throughout the country, IFIOC has also been invited to present on communication and
improved outcomes in Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, and Poland. In 2015 the IFIOC team developed a fidelity-based tool with qualitative and quantitative metrics for coding clinical conversations. The Motivational Interviewing Competency Assessment (MICA) is used for both quality assurance in terms of establishing baselines for patient-centered care as well as for a quality improvement tool for achieving proficiency in MI to promote sustained patient behavior change. While the MICA has been used on many research projects nationally and internationally, IFIOC is the licensed owner and primary author of the tool.
