[00:00:00] Hello, everyone. Welcome to another episode of skill building with the IFIOC team. Uh, today we’ve got a fun new game for you that we’re excited for you to be able to participate in. Again, you’re always welcome to pause this play with us, or just watch us and kind of hear where we take the conversations.
But today we’re actually going to be playing one of our new games. That’s called a motivational interviewing. Affirmation strategic affirmation or self-affirmation practice dice game. So if everyone has their dice and again, we’re working on this worksheet, we’re going to roll our dice. And then the number that you land on is the actual scenario that you’re going to respond to.
And then as a practitioner, Casey, John, or myself, we get to decide whether we want to focus on a strategic affirmation or a self-affirmation. Okay. Um, right. So the question [00:01:00] is a leadership question. I want my teams to be successful. They might not be perfect, but they try hard and I want to help them any way that I can.
And you know that you have resources and abilities within you to make that happen. Nice. That was short and sweet to affirmations. People tend to get really wordy. That’s a great short answer. As I say, was that just an affirmation? Yes. So this gets into the definition of supporting autonomy and activation, and we could dive deep into this, but for anyone that’s really working on this, this tends to be something that people are showing up when they’re submitting audio tapes to improve.
It’s the activation piece. Doesn’t have to always be one way of doing an affirmation. What we’re tapping into is their self-efficacy. And a little bit of personal agency, but more self-efficacy in this one. And by focusing on their abilities, that’s also a form of change talk, but this I’m making from something within them.[00:02:00]
That’s an ability that they have. So it would line up with the activation and supporting autonomy and activation for a type of affirmation. It’s not subjectively that fee. There’s not a lot of and that’s where I’ll, I’ll do my best to work on that. But any. Positive tone and stuff. I can go to amplify, but that just by definition is definitely something that taps into something within them.
That’s their ability that they have to make change happen. Okay. Cool. All right, I’ll go next. Perfect. I’m going to ruin my day. I got to, this one is healthcare. I want to exercise more. It’s really hard to do daily as my schedule is so high. But when I do exercise, I feel so good. I know I can squeeze it in, but I just have to figure out where and how so I’m going to try.
It’s meant to do a self-affirmation. Okay. And I’m going to say [00:03:00] you figured out a way to make this work in the past. When you look at those times where you were able to balance fitting it in and getting that need for exercise, what did that look like?
That’s a good open question. It’s a great question. Well, you’re evoking problem solving. It’s wonderful. It would be under partnering with the Mica and there’s other things going on there. Evoking it’s like exactly, like Casey said, it’s a vodka. There’s so many good things about it. Uh, you started with the ability side.
It’s the ending is about problem solving and not about their affirming this within. So we can talk about alternatives, but I’ve been talking too much. Casey, what are your thoughts? No, say I would have said the same thing. Those were the same things that clicked. It was just such an, it’s an excellent response to excellent.
You might hear a response really well. Thoughts self-affirmation is, has a different quality to what you’re trying to elicit. Okay. All right. [00:04:00] Well, you go next and one of these days, no, no, no. Just to say, which could sound like, cause Casey, you said different qualities, right? Well, what would that attend? It could be a variety of things, but one of those possibilities is will what were, what are currently or what could be, you know, in the future, things that you have within yourself to rely upon in this situation.
You’re having them get in side a little bit more. It’s not clear, but I’m trying to inch closer to what they have within them while problem solving. But a self-affirmation doesn’t have to have problem solving quite honestly. It could just be. So what are the things that, you know, within you that made that happen in the past?
What are the, what are the. What’s the strengths that you have that, you know, when things are tough. Gosh, I know I can rely on that, right. That have them go within themselves. That that would be an Casey, feel free to correct or jump in here. But those are the [00:05:00] qualities where you go deeper within themself, around self-efficacy personal agency, all that stuff at the expense, maybe of problem solving right now.
